It’s so uplifting to connect with like-minded women who celebrate each other’s successes. Thank you for fostering a community that champions girls power, ambition, and support!
We are grateful to share such a Chinese women’s community to support and grow together. Here, we share our lives, exchange experiences, and find strength. Each gathering brings warmth, inspiration, and a sense of belonging.
I’m grateful to have the chance of being part of the community, it’s been a pleasure to connect with other women here. Thank the organizers for their time and energy putting the events together.
Growing up in a traditional Chinese family, I always prioritized family above all else. As the youngest, with a high-achieving older sister and a brother seen as the family cornerstone, I watched my parents dedicate everything to us. I never imagined myself, as a woman, being an extraordinary leader. Despite naturally leading in sports and communities I joined, my mindset held me back.
Reflecting on my journey, I realized how much my decisions were shaped by cultural expectations and societal norms. It’s important to acknowledge these limitations without self-blame.
Moving to Canada, I am committed to breaking free from these constraints, pursuing my passions, and writing my own story. I hope to inspire my daughters to grow up with fewer limitations and an open mindset, empowering them to follow their passions and build fulfilling lives.
Through founding the Chinese Women’s Community, I aim to connect and uplift like-minded women as we navigate new lives in Nova Scotia. Together, we can create genuine connections, inspire one another, and build lives that are both beautiful and deeply fulfilling.
This is our very first meetup, and it’s truly heartwarming to see so many vibrant faces coming together, all seeking connection and sharing the same value—women’s growth in a new culture, love you all.

Coffee Chat – Sully and Porter
This is our second meetup, and we found a cozy spot where we could truly open our hearts and share the things that stress us and the techniques we use to manage them. The conversation was so engaging, we couldn’t stop talking—until the coffee shop closed at 4 pm! (But we still loved it!)
03
Outdoor Hiking – Duncans Cove
This was our third meetup, and it was an adventure like no other! The journey began with a little excitement when our navigation had us stop in the middle of a road, but together we figured out the right path—teamwork at its best! Eight of us made the hike, and the weather couldn’t have been more perfect. The views were breathtaking, it felt like a day out with old friends back in China as we shared treats, laughed, and soaked up the peaceful warmth. For four wonderful hours, we enjoyed each other’s company, captured beautiful memories in pictures, and truly embraced the moment. It was a day of laughter, connection, and nature at its finest!
04
Outdoor Hiking – Point Pleasant Park
Fourth but first meetup was a day to remember! We gathered at Point Pleasant Park, and it felt like a slice of home right here in Canada. The kids immediately connected, laughing and exploring together, making new friends, and practicing Chinese in a natural, playful way. For the moms, it was a wonderful chance to relax and chat without worry—just like we would in China. We swapped stories, and enjoyed the beautiful trails with a sense of ease and connection that made us all feel at home. It was a day filled with laughter, friendship, and the warmth of a familiar community in a beautiful setting.

06
Hotpot & Entrepreneurship – The Paramount Common Room
Our ‘Hotpot & Entrepreneurship’ meetup was a blend of chaos and connection! Despite the storm and some power challenges, 10 women came together to share ideas, laugh, and bond. Cultural differences added both fun and a few hurdles—like my eco-friendly ‘bring your own plates’ idea, which turned cleanup into a mini workout. Hotpot may be messy, but it symbolizes teamwork and shared moments. We worked together to prepare the meal and created a memory that will become part of our shared story as we all settle down in Canada..

Every conversation opens my eyes to new perspectives!

Interview Preparation – Atlantica Hotel
The meetup felt more like friends gathered over coffee than a study session, laughter filling the room. We rehearsed strength pitches, tackled behavioral questions, and explained career shifts—each of us stumbling on different parts yet cheering one another on. I walked away realizing the true goal is bigger than passing an interview; it is about steadying our nerves, claiming our stories, and speaking with our own voice.
12
Plants Sharing – Selby’s Bunker Coffee & Gifts
Sunlight poured in, coffee fragranced the air, and a table brimming with green turned Selby’s Bunker into a pocket oasis. Pot by pot we are growing a slow, shared garden that reminds us to pause, breathe, and let ourselves bloom at our own pace. 🌿💚

On a slow Sunday afternoon at Bulwark Cider House, we gathered amid the soft aroma of cider, glasses in hand and hearts open. Stories of parenthood—both tender and raw—flowed gently through our circle. Some shared their first stumbles into motherhood, others spoke of Canada’s generous family benefits and quiet wisdom. Sunlight streamed in like memory, and for a while, we sat wrapped in laughter, warmth, and the shared weight of love.
14
OnTree
On a sunny afternoon, a group of us from the community geared up in safety harnesses and stepped onto the swaying ropes of the treetop course, cheering each other on through every challenge. Some braved the zipline for the first time—screaming and laughing in equal measure—while others moved steadily through each obstacle, as if telling a story of quiet resilience and strength. Dappled light filtered through the trees, leaves rustled in the breeze, and laughter echoed high above the forest floor—an adventure filled with trust and courage, quietly bearing the fruit of connection among us.

Car Maintenance and Repairs
At a cozy corner of Goodman Public Library, we gathered in a circle, chatting from engine sounds to brake maintenance, from oil changes to winter driving tips. Some brought old repair receipts with questions; others shared their experience changing tires by hand. Gender Equality App – Paramount
Beneath the afternoon sun at Paramount, we gathered to share stories around an app built for gender equality. Some spoke of bias they had faced in the workplace; others shared how tech had helped amplify women’s voices. In that moment, technology was no longer just a tool—it became an invitation to connect, to empower, and to change.

Fitness Sharing – Commons
As a gentle breeze swept through the Commons in the early evening, we sat together on the grass, talking about strength training, posture realignment, and the rhythms of our own bodies. Some shared how fitness gave them confidence; others spoke of movement as an emotional outlet. Muscles and mindfulness intertwined in our conversations. In that moment, fitness felt less like a routine and more like a quiet journey toward reconnecting with ourselves.

Photography and the Power of Women
This weekend, we gathered to hear from our member Le, who shared his favorite women photographers and their work. Each image challenged fixed ideas of beauty, revealing women not as symbols, but as complex, free, and powerful beings. Le invited us to see through the lens—to witness tenderness as strength, stillness as presence. Together, we explored how photography can reshape our gaze, and how women are not just seen, but are reclaiming the right to define how they are seen.
19
Feminist Psychology
In a quiet space of reflection, we stepped into the world of feminist psychology—a perspective that reframes mental health not as an individual flaw or weakness, but as a deeply relational experience shaped by gender, social roles, and lived histories. When sadness is dismissed as “overreacting,” when anxiety is seen as “too sensitive,” feminist psychology urges us to reclaim the language of our emotions. It reminds us that healing is not just a personal task—it’s also a form of resistance against systems that silence, diminish, and fragment us.
20
Financial Planning and Investment
We gathered to talk not just about money—but about security, dreams, and care. Some were just starting their careers, curious about the flexibility of a TFSA; others were planning for their children’s education through RESP; and some were mapping out their retirement years with RRSP in mind. We discovered that finance isn’t merely about numbers—it’s about preparing gently for the life we want. Behind each acronym lies a small promise to our future selves, a mindful way to grow alongside time.

From Renting to Owning a Home
Buying a home often begins as a quiet thought—maybe one day. Some are still finding comfort in rented spaces, some are saving for their first down payment, and others are already taking cautious steps into the market. With clarity and care, Ellie walked us through each stage—financial planning, school choices, housing options, and market insights. Homeownership, we realized, is not just a financial milestone but a journey of belonging—an unfolding story of how a place slowly becomes home.

There were no fixed steps, no expectations—just movement, presence, and listening inward. After the dance, participants gathered to share reflections in a relaxed and open space. It was a quiet, grounding experience—less about performance, more about returning to oneself.

Caring for Yourself While Parenting
This Saturday, we shifted the focus from “being a better parent” to gently asking, “how can I care for myself first?” Mitchell Dysart shared practical and compassionate approaches to self care in parenting, helping participants navigate stress, doubt, and everyday challenges with more ease. The session was simple, grounded, and relatable. Through listening and reflection, many found a sense of relief and connection.
